Key Safety Guidance

The Bola Wrap 150® deploys a Kevlar cord with small barbed anchors to temporarily restrict a subject’s movement from a safe distance. It is intended primarily for unarmed, non-compliant individuals where a lower level of force is appropriate.

Officers must be trained and follow agency policies and all product warnings before using the BolaWrap 150®.

Safe handling rules:
• Always point in a safe direction when inserting or removing a cassette
• Maintain at least 10 feet of distance from the subject
• Keep hands away from the front of the device and cassette bay
• Store with the power switch OFF and cassette removed

Deployment Conditions

Appropriate Uses
Scenarios where the BolaWrap 150® can be effective:
• Emotionally disturbed or suicidal persons
• Mildly aggressive or non-compliant individuals
• Mentally ill subjects
• Subjects armed with non-firearm weapons
• SWAT support operations

When Not to Deploy
• Subject armed with a firearm
• Risk of high-injury falls (heights, deep water)

Operating Instructions:

Cassette Insertion
1. Power OFF
2. Point device safely away
3. Insert cassette into bay until it clicks
4. Tug to confirm secure seating

Preparing to Deploy
1. Draw device and point toward ground
2. Switch ON and confirm green indicator
3. Laser activates automatically

Target Aim Zones (Wrap Zones)
• Mid-thighs to ankles
• Between elbows and wrists
Avoid the head, neck, and face.

Discharge Procedure
• Announce deployment (ex: “BOLA! BOLA! BOLA!”)
• Firmly press and release Activation Button (do not hold)
• Secure subject quickly once safe to do so
• Dispose of spent cassettes per agency procedure

Performance and Effectiveness Considerations

• Effective operating range: 10–25 feet
• Deployment under 10 feet increases risk of skin penetration
• Laser may be harder to see in bright daylight
• Moving subjects may defeat wrapping
• Anchors must attach to clothing to secure the tether
• Device or cassette failure is possible; be prepared to transition to alternate tactics]

Injury Risk Warnings
Even when used correctly, injuries can occur. Risk factors include:
• Barb puncture or skin injury
• Eye injury if deployed near head
• Tripping or falling after restraint
• Sound exposure from 160 dB discharge (hearing protection recommended in training).

Laser Safety

Avoid pointing the Class IIIa/II laser at:
• Eyes or face
• Reflective surfaces
• Aircraft or vehicle operators
Laser auto-shuts after five minutes of inactivity.

Maintenance + Lifespan
• Device lifespan: approx. 5 years under normal duty conditions
• Cassette field lifespan: 2 years; storage shelf-life: 3 years
• Battery pack shelf-life: 5 years
• Keep cassette bay free of debris; only use approved cassettes and batteries
• Avoid submersion in water; do not use a damaged device/cassette
